New CEO for Cambridge Assessment

01 February 2018

The University of Cambridge today announced the appointment of Bill Anderson as the new Group Chief Executive of its £413 million Cambridge Assessment Group.

He succeeds Simon Lebus, who is stepping down after 15 years during which the Group has grown into one of the world’s leading assessment and education services organisations.

Bill joins Cambridge Assessment after 21 years at Pearson. His last role was Senior Vice President, Product, where he led the product and product technology teams across such diverse areas as data commonality, student experience, data analytics and the certification of student outcomes.

Prior to that, Bill was the first Global President of Pearson's English Language Teaching business tasked with creating a unified, global, publishing and commercial operation, delivering significant financial performance improvements.

Bill has an MA in History from the University of Edinburgh.

Anthony Odgers, Chairman of the University board to which both Cambridge Assessment and Cambridge University Press answer, said: “We are delighted to welcome someone with such an impressive pedigree to lead the Group. Cambridge Assessment is already a global leader but has significant opportunities for growth. Bill’s considerable experience, commitment and passion for education will help the Group realise its ambitions.”

Bill Anderson said: “I am honoured to accept this leadership role at a world-leading assessment body and education services group. I am particularly excited at the prospect of working in partnership with Cambridge University Press and the broader University community to improve global educational outcomes and to help individuals everywhere realise their full potential.”

Bill takes up his new position on 5 March.
